BOUESTI pensioners seek Oyebanji’s intervention over unpaid gratuities

Pensioners from the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) have cried out for help from the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji over the delay in payment of their gratuities over 31 years ago.

The retirees said the non-payment of the gratuity and other entitlement for a long time had impacted negatively on the lives of their members.

In a statement released on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, by the pensioners through their chairman, Dr Kola Ajaja, and the Secretary, Tunde Olowe, they explained that some of them had died in the last 31 years over the long delay in the payment of their entitlement.

The statement reads, “Many of us are facing serious health challenges and some others are in a very bad condition because of lack of money to cater for their daily needs. We are talking about gratuities that are about 31 years; it is a long time.

“The non-payment of pension arrears. Our people are owed various amounts of pension arrears.  In addition, the management has yet to pay two months’ arrears of the 2018 pension to all members.

“None remittance of 12 months deductions from the pension of our members to the union’s account by the University management.”

In his reaction, the BOUESTI Public Relations Officer, Temitope Akinbisoye, who sympathized with the pensioners, revealed that the university is doing everything possible to address the squat.
